Tameside Parenting Support Survey

We Asked

We were looking to review the offer available to support parents and carers in understanding their child’s behaviour and development. In order to be able to refresh the offer it was vital that we consult parents in Tameside on what their needs were. The survey aimed to get an idea of the appetite for parenting support in Tameside, and if so how and when parents or carers would like to learn more about managing their child’s development. #

You Said

We received a very positive response, with just over 800 people responding to the survey. The responses were made up largely of parents and carers.

  • An overwhelming 85% said that they were interested in understanding the behaviour and development of their children.
  • The biggest proportion, nearly 50% said they would like an online course, followed by nearly 30% saying they would like to attend a group with other parents & carers.
  • Respondents indicated that courses should take place in schools, children’s centres, online or in women’s centres.
  • Almost half of those responded indicated that they would be likely to attend drop-in sessions for advice.
Overall, comments showed that respondents were keen to have support or guidance on a number of topics, including emotional, mental health and behavioural support as well as information about Autism, ADHD and Dyslexia.#
We Did

The responses were used to update the Parenting Strategy which sets out how we aim to support parents and carers in Tameside. The responses are also being used to consider the following options for the future:

  • How we will deliver evening and weekend courses
  • The locations where training will be held to ensure that this meets the need and availability of those who would be attending them
  • Plans for more in-depth ‘masterclasses’ based around particular parenting needs
  • The launch of weekly parenting clinics in September 2019
