Budget Conversation 2019/20Tameside CouncilTameside Council and Tameside & Glossop CCG (known as Tameside & Glossop Strategic Commission) had to set a balanced budget for 2019/20. We are faced with the task of saving £70m in the next five years in order to balance the budget. A public consultation was launched to gather the views of residents in the area. Deferred Payment Policy ConsultationsTameside CouncilThe Care Act requires local councils to offer a Deferred Payment Scheme as a method of paying for care where it is subject to charging. The policy has been in place since August 2015; however a recent review found that some aspects of the policy require further clarification. Single Handed CareTameside CouncilTameside Council reviewed its manual handling policies and procedures with a view to establish a Single Handed Care team. Healthwatch Tameside NHS Long Term PlanHealthwatch TamesideThe government is investing £20bn a year in the NHS as part of the NHS Long Term Plan. Local organisations are also working to develop their own plans which will set out how the national plan will work across individual areas. The public are being asked for their views about how services could be improved. Healthwatch Tameside facilitated the engagement exercise through consultation.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service – Programme for Change

GMCA / GMFRS

Programme for Change represents a major transformation programme for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service with the aim of ensuring the Service has the right resources in the right places, is well-equipped, well-managed, and well-led. This consultation is the public’s opportunity to contribute their views on some of the content of the business case including:

  • A proposal to consolidate six fire stations into three brand new community fire stations in Bolton, Manchester and Stockport.
  • A proposal to manage the fleet of fire engines whilst ensure their response time is still faster than the national average.

Our Pass Opportunities 

GMCA

Our Pass is for 16-18 year olds in Greater Manchester. It combines free bus travel with access to sport, culture and leisure offers. It will become available from this September with applications open from July. Before this launches, GMCA wanted to hear from young people to find out what they will use it for.

It has commissioned research to understand whether there has been any impact on Greater Manchester residents following the fire. Wheelchair SurveyGMHSCPThe GM Health & Social Care Partnership are conducting a Wheelchair review of both Adults and Children’s services across GM. There is currently a lot of variation in the wheelchair services causing inequality and poor provision in some parts of GM.

Greater Manchester Clean Air ProposalsClean Air GMGreater Manchester is working to tackle air pollution. Unless something is done, roads across Greater Manchester will continue to have dangerously high levels of pollutants, which can contribute to a wide range of illnesses and health conditions. A range of measures have been put forward to reduce roadside NO2 levels while protecting local people, business and the economy. A series of government-funded schemes to help Greater Manchester HGV, bus and coach, taxi and private hire vehicles upgrade to cleaner vehicles. The Clean Air Plan will be developed in more detail in the coming months and your input is needed.

Police Funding 2019-20GMCAFunding for the police comes both directly from central government and also a proportion of council tax. About 80% of the funding for the police comes in a grant from the government, and the Mayor is responsible for setting the amount of council tax that local households pay for the police. However since 2010 the amount of money from government has reduced and the Mayor is responsible for setting the Council Tax amount that goes to police funding. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor for Crime and Policing wanted to hear the public’s views on the amount of council tax that local households will pay for the police over the course of 2019/20.11/01/1927/01/19

This consultation seeks views on a range of potential measures to reduce personal water consumption, and what reduction in water is technically feasible and/or achievable. It also invites suggestions for additional measures to reduce water usage.

Electric vehicle chargepoints in residential and non-residential buildingsDepartment for TransportThe government is proposing to alter existing building regulations for new residential buildings to include requirements for electric vehicle chargepoints and for non-residential buildings to include requirements for electric vehicle chargepoint infrastructure. They would also like to introduce requirement for existing non-residential buildings to have electric vehicle chargepoints. The proposals aim to support and encourage the growing uptake of electric vehicles  and make charging easier and cheaper. Adding Folic Acid to FlourDepartment of Health and Social CareThis consultation is seeking views on a proposal to make it mandatory for flour millers to add folic acid to flour. Mandatory fortification of flour is expected to help raise people’s levels of a vitamin called folate. Raising folate levels in people who could become pregnant would help reduce the number of babies born with birth defects of the brain, spine or spinal cord. Introducing further advertising restrictions of products high in fat, sugar and salt (HFSS) on TV and onlineDepartment of Health and Social CareChildhood obesity is one of the most pressing public health challenges that we face. The Government is concerned that despite existing restrictions, children see a significant level of HFSS adverts through the media they engage with the most and this can shape their choices and over time, lead to obesity. Therefore they are consulting on options across broadcast and online media in order to reduce children’s exposure to HFSS advertising.
