Are badgers protected?

Badgers are protected and since the 1992 act this includes setts (the badgers habitat), but the act does allow for the ministry to serve licenses to kill, take badgers or interfere with setts if causing serious damage to agriculture.

Where can I get a license?

You can get a license from your local Ministry Regional Service Centre.

Should I leave food out for the badger?

No this will only encourage the badger to keep returning and become lazy and dependant on your provision of your food.

Do they carry diseases?

They have been linked in the spread of Tuberculosis.

What precautions can I take to stop the badger getting into my garden without causing harm?

Fences will provide adequate protection.
