Help for those causing harm


TLC is part of the Bridges Partnership delivering specialist interventions in Tameside.

Adults using harmful behaviours

  • High Risk High Harm perpetrators: 1:1 intensive support tailored to the needs of the individual
  • Medium risk/ Low risk: Bridging to Change (medium risk)/Aspiring to Change (low risk) 

 Two courses for perpetrators identifying as male and heterosexual; 

  1. Bridging to Change is aimed at those assessed as medium risk is lasts for 40 weeks
  2. Aspiring to Change is for those assessed as low risk and lasts for 25 weeks.

For both courses individual preparatory sessions are followed by series of group work sessions with a maximum of 12 participants. 

  • Individual Behaviour Change (medium/low risk)

A 16-20 week 1-1 programme for individuals with protected characteristics. For people of all genders, all sexualities, in all types of relationships and those with English as an additional language. 

Children and Young People using harmful behaviours

In Tameside TLC runs two Children & Young People’s Programmes:

  • Encouraging Healthy Relationships and
  • Respect Young People’s Programme,

The Encouraging Healthy Relationships programme is to support young people who are displaying harmful behaviours towards their siblings, partners or people they are dating. Support is offered via weekly structured sessions, for an average of 3 months.

Eligibility criteria for the Encouraging Healthy Relationships Programme:

  • Must be displaying unhealthy behaviours towards their siblings, partners or people they are dating.
  • Must be aged 13-19 years old (Referrals for someone aged 10-12 and 20-21 may be considered on a case-by-case basis)
  • Must be a resident in Tameside unless a Tameside Cared for Child in an out-of-borough placement.

The Respect Young Peoples Programme is to support young people who are displaying unhealthy behaviours in relationships with their parents and/or carers. Support is offered via weekly structured sessions with the child and their family.

Eligibility criteria for the Respect Young Peoples Programme:

  • Must be displaying unhealthy behaviours in their relationships towards parent/carer and parent/carer must be agree to engaging in the programme themselves
  • Must be aged 13-19 years old (Referrals for someone aged 10-12 and 20-21 may be considered on a case-by-case basis)
  • Must be a resident in Tameside unless a Tameside Cared for Child in an out-of-borough placement.

Any Child or Young Person that has accessed either of the programmes can also access TLC’s counselling service for additional support, if needed after or during their main programme. Partners and siblings aged 5 – 19 years old can also access support. Counselling sessions will consist of 8 – 10 client-led holistic sessions by a qualified TLC Counsellor.
