Please note: Central Library has moved to new premises in Tameside One, Market Place, Ashton-under-Lyne OL6 6BH. Tameside Local Studies & Archives is not part of the move.  You can continue to visit us via our pedestrian entrance on Oldham Road, or our Cotton Street East entrance where there are parking facilities.

Material relating to the history of Tameside's nine towns (Ashton-u-Lyne, Audenshaw, Denton, Droylsden, Dukinfield, Hyde, Longdendale, Mossley, Stalybridge) is centralised at Tameside Local Studies and Archives Centre.

Request to deposit archives or photographs with Tameside Local Studies and Archives

Please contact us if you wish to make a donation.

In addition to the records of the Borough Council and its predecessors, Tameside Local Studies and Archives takes in a wide variety of archives and photographs from private donors, depositors and organisations, and makes them available to the public.  We accept records relating to places, organisations and people from the Tameside area, along with records relating to the Manchester Regiment.

Online Enquiries

We require 24 hours’ notice to retrieve documents. Please note that all requests for archives to be produced on Saturdays need to be received no later than 2pm on the Thursday preceding your visit. We will acknowledge receipt of all requests to confirm that the documents can be produced. Please bring a copy of your acknowledgement when you visit.

Minimum charge for look-up service £5

This includes up to 2 free A4 copies (photocopy / printing / microfilm print) & postage. Additional copies 80p A4, £1.60 A3

Important: Please include your name and postal address when you send us a message as this will help us provide a full response to your enquiry.
