Physical Abuse

Parents & CarersChildren & Young PeopleProfessionalsTraining

When someone deliberately injures you, this is known as physical abuse. Childline say that anybody can be physically abusive and may do things such as:

  • Hitting, kicking, shoving, shaking or punching you
  • Beating you with objects or throwing objects at you
  • Pulling your hair
  • Making you swallow something that could hurt you. This includes giving you medicine when you don’t need it
  • Biting or scratching you
  • Burning or scalding you
  • Suffocating you (this is when someone covers your nose and mouth and you can’t breathe).

Just Like Me?

If this sounds just like you, you could be being physically abused.

Physical abuse is not your fault and you need to get help to make it stop. It does not matter who is doing it and why they may say they are doing it, it is not okay.
