Safeguarding and Child Protection Induction Checklist

This checklist is written in accordance with the statutory requirements set out in the ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children’ guidance (Chapter 2, Para 4). It is intended for all practitioners that in the course of their professional duties come into contact with children (pre-birth to 18th birthday) and/or their parents or carers.

Please print or copy this page so that it can be used as a checklist by you and your manager during your induction period.

Week Action Completion Date & Signature
Week 1

1. Read your organisations Child Protection Policy which includes details of your organisations designated child protection/safeguarding leads and what to do if you’re worried about a child.

 
 

2. Read your organisations Information Sharing Protocol particularly in relation to when you have a safeguarding duty to share information or as a minimum be familiar with and abide by the ‘7 Golden Rules to Sharing Information’.

 
Week 2

1. Familiarise yourself with the TSCP Threshold Guidance, Children’s Needs Framework & Professional Disagreement/Escalation Policy.

 
 

2. Read your organisations Safe Working Practices guidance or Code of Conduct.

 
Within 3 months

Complete in-house basic safeguarding awareness training or equivalent. All training should meet the minimum standards set out in the guidance below.

If appropriate complete TSCP ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children - Foundation Course’ and ‘Family CAF’ Training.
