Why We Want You
Book Time for Yourself Clubs meet weekly in a number of libraries. The clubs are usually facilitated by a member of library staff and a volunteer who take turns in reading aloud to club members. Members listen and then discuss what they have just heard. We require volunteers to:
- Welcome and support members of the book group
- Participate in discussions about books and poetry and related subjects that are discussed by the group
- Lead sessions and help select reading material
- Assist in the provision of refreshments for the group
- Adhere to good practice with regards to equalities and confidentiality
Skills/Qualities/Qualifications Required
Volunteers must:
- Have an interest in books and reading
- Have the confidence to lead a small group and/or read aloud to a small group
- Enjoy working with people
- Be friendly and non-judgemental
- Enjoy working in a team
- Have the ability to encourage and support group members
- Be a good listener and open to the views of others
- Be a reliable and good time-keeper
What’s In It For You?
You will work as part of the Libraries’ team and get the opportunity to build up existing or develop new skills. You will receive appropriate training for the role. Unfortunately we cannot reimburse expenses at this time.
