Announcement: Tameside Library Service during national lockdown November 2020.

From Thursday 5 November Tameside Library buildings will be closed for general use and browsing - however online services, the order and collect services and the Home Library Service will continue. There will also be strictly managed access to public PCs in library buildings to assist with essential activity such as job applications, benefit claims and digital access to other public services.

Learning Opportunities at Tameside Libraries

  

Throughout the year Tameside Libraries hold a variety of courses, workshops and learning sessions for Adults.

There's more to you library logoAdult learning activities happening in libraries:

  • Private tutors often use our community rooms to run one off workshops on a variety of topics. These are advertised in the Library and on the Tameside Events Calendar.
  • Festival of learning - Tameside Libraries hold a focus week that offers free learning taster sessions. Look out for details in Libraries, on the Libraries website and on the Events Calendar.
 
I.T. Courses For Beginners - Learn My Way

 

  • Get started with Learn My Way - Free and simple online courses for beginners. Come along to our free workshop to help you get started using your device and getting online.

All of our libraries have PCs for you to use.

Library members can use the internet free of charge for up to one hour per day. Charges apply for additional use of the internet by members, internet use by non-members, and printing. If you are not a Library member it is easy to join and membership is free. Find out how to join the library.

 

 

Improve Your Digital Skills - iDEA

Get started with iDEA - Free online courses to improve your digital skills; collect badges as you complete units and build up to an award.

iDEA is headed by the Duke of York and is a scheme for the digital age similar to the Duke of Edinburgh Awards. Come along to our free workshop to help you improve your digital skills.

Reading

 

Benefits of Reading

 

Reading regularly has been shown to benefit us in many different ways. Reading develops the vocabulary, general knowledge, understanding cultural awareness which can lead to improved education and skills levels and employment prospects.

Reading for pleasure often can raise self-esteem and promote wellbeing, helping to overcoming problems such as loneliness and depression. It can also help to keep our minds active as we get older, whether we still read stories and magazines, or listen to audiobooks.

Fostering a love of reading for pleasure in children is therefore really important, but it's never too late to start or improve your reading skills. Tameside Libraries has a range of groups and activities for all sorts of readers.

  • Readers' Groups - If you love reading why not join one of Tameside Libraries Readers' Groups.
  • Book Time for Yourself - Small and friendly groups offering a new type of reading experience.
  • Reading Well - Books on Prescription
  • Quick Reads - Tameside Libraries stock a range of short and engaging books for adult readers by bestselling authors.
  • Reading Ahead - A scheme to support and encourage readers which is particularly help for speakers of other languages and those with reading difficuties. Ask about Reading Ahead at any Tameside LIbrary.
