Ashton Levelling Up Fund

The £19.87m fund we received from the Government for Ashton-under-Lyne is being used to regenerate the town centre. We are working on our plans to improve the town centre and make it a place for everyone to live, work, and visit.

The £19.87m funding has the potential to support the construction of new homes, new offices, commercial spaces, a new health and wellbeing hub, and retail spaces. It will also improve access between the town centre and the surrounding areas.
With additional cycle routes and cycle parking created, public realm improvements and traffic improvements integrated with the Bee Network encouraging sustainable travel.

There are three key projects underway:
  • Walking, cycling and public realm improvements, including a refurbishment of the market square. The improvements to walking/cycling routes and public realm are being delivered alongside the council’s existing public realm capital programme and the Mayor’s Challenge Fund work in the town centre.
Concept Idea
  • Support for the restoration of Ashton Town Hall including essential repairs to the roof followed by a refurbishment/restoration scheme. Further internal restoration will then follow, subject to additional funding.
  • The redevelopment of former interchange site – we aim to make it an attractive location for potential private sector investment, for a development that could include a mix of new homes, retail, leisure and commercial space.
